Quick answer

What does a Data Studio consultant do?

A Data Studio consultant plans, builds and maintains reports in Google Data Studio. That means connecting sources such as GA4, Google Ads, Sheets and BigQuery, writing calculated fields, fixing quota and blend errors, and designing pages people can read in a minute. Most engagements are a fixed-scope build, a repair, or team training.

  • You work with one person who scopes, builds, documents and hands over the report.
  • Every project gets a fixed price after a free review of your data.
  • Reports built before the April 2026 rename moved over automatically and keep working.
  • I have led Data Studio builds across insurance, pharma, retail, manufacturing and logistics.

01

What does a Data Studio consultant actually do?

The job is to turn scattered data into reports that stay accurate without someone babysitting them. The visible part is the dashboard. The bigger part sits underneath it: which connector to use, how data source credentials are set, which calculated fields carry the business logic, and how the report behaves when twenty people open it on Monday morning.

My work falls into three kinds. New builds, where we start from the decisions your team needs to make and work back to the data. Repairs, where a report someone else built has started throwing errors or showing numbers nobody trusts. And setup work, such as moving a team onto Data Studio Pro workspaces or putting BigQuery underneath reports that keep hitting API limits.

As a Data Studio expert, the part I care about most is the logic. A CASE statement that groups campaigns into channels the way your finance team counts them, a parameter that lets a manager switch targets without editing the report, a blend that joins spend to leads on the right key. Get those right and the charts are the easy bit.

02

What can I build for you in Data Studio?

Most of what I build falls into a handful of patterns. Each one has its own page on this site with the connectors, limits and fixes that matter for it.

If you already have a report that is broken, slow or disputed, start with the report fix page instead. A careful repair is often cheaper than a rebuild, and it keeps the URLs your team has bookmarked.

  • Custom dashboards designed from scratch around your KPIs (see dashboard development).
  • GA4 dashboards with key events, channel groupings and Search Console data side by side.
  • Google Ads and PPC reports across several accounts, with Meta and LinkedIn added through partner connectors.
  • BigQuery-backed reports for large datasets, including the GA4 BigQuery export.
  • Google Sheets dashboards, often fed by Apps Script so nobody pastes data by hand.
  • Finance, supply chain, manufacturing and logistics dashboards for operations teams.

03

Why hire one consultant instead of a marketplace freelancer or an agency?

Hire one consultant when you want a single person accountable for the logic, the build and the handover. Marketplace gigs are usually priced per chart or per page, and the person who built your report is rarely around when a connector changes six months later.

A Data Studio freelancer from a marketplace can be a fine choice for a small, well-defined task, like restyling a page or adding one chart. Problems start when the brief is vague. Someone has to ask why GA4 disagrees with the CRM, decide which source wins, and write that rule down. That is consulting work, and it is most of what I do.

An agency is the better option in some situations, and I will tell you when yours is one of them. If you need monthly reporting for dozens of clients, white-label delivery, or a team covering several time zones, a studio with more people will serve you better than one consultant. For a defined build, a repair, or a team that wants to learn the tool, working directly with me is usually faster and simpler.

Looker Studio is Data Studio again: what does that mean for your reports?

Nothing you built is lost. Google announced on April 11, 2026 that the product would be called Data Studio again, and the change rolled out in mid-April. Existing reports, data sources, assets and users moved over automatically, and lookerstudio.google.com now redirects to datastudio.google.com with deep links preserved.

The tool has carried three names: Google Data Studio from 2016, Looker Studio from October 2022, and Data Studio again from April 2026. Plenty of people still search for a looker studio consultant, and it is the same job in the same tool. I have worked under both names, so old documentation, old screenshots and old bookmarks are not a problem.

One thing did not change. Data Studio is still separate from Looker, Google's enterprise BI platform built on governed semantic models. Data Studio is the self-service reporting tool, free for creators and viewers, and Data Studio Pro is its paid edition for teams. If a quote mentions Looker when you asked about dashboards, check which product they mean.

05

How does working with a Data Studio consultant run?

It runs in short, visible steps, and you see a working draft early. I start with a free review of your sources and the decisions the report has to support, then quote a fixed price for the scope we agree in writing.

During the build I share a live draft link rather than screenshots. You click the filters, try date ranges and tell me what reads wrong. Before handover I set data source credentials so the report does not depend on my account, document every calculated field, and set up scheduled email delivery if your team wants the report in their inbox each week.

06

Where does the data in your reports come from?

Data Studio connects natively to most Google sources, and partner connectors cover the rest. Native connectors include GA4, Google Ads, Search Console, Google Sheets, BigQuery, YouTube, Campaign Manager 360, Display & Video 360, Ad Manager, Cloud SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Redshift.

For Meta, LinkedIn and other non-Google platforms, I use partner connectors such as Supermetrics, Windsor.ai, Porter Metrics, Funnel, Power My Analytics or Catchr, depending on what you already pay for. Their pricing changes often, so I check current plans with you instead of assuming.

The choice of source matters more than most people expect. Fixed-schema sources like GA4 and Google Ads allow 10 dimensions and 20 metrics in a table, while Sheets, BigQuery and SQL sources allow 100 of each. Blends join at most five sources, with equality joins only. When a report outgrows those limits, the fix is usually to move the heavy lifting into Sheets or BigQuery.

Who is the Data Studio consultant behind this site?

I'm Harsh Khubchandani. I began my career at ZS in pharmaceutical commercial operations, where reports going to sales leadership had to be right every time. I have spent 8+ years since then building automation and analytics, and The Economic Times featured me among its Dynamic Business Leaders of 2024.

I'm Director, Automation and Analytics at Greenwolf Tech Labs, which I founded. Projects I've led there include an insurance broker dashboard tracking members joined, exited and retained per client scheme, a pharma brand dashboard with Rx volume, sales by state and actual vs forecast, retail and manufacturing performance dashboards, logistics order tracking, and procurement spend and supplier risk reporting.

One project shows what this work can change. An Australian insurance brokerage received messy .xls files from several insurers. We built a pipeline where the files land in Google Drive, are mapped into a central Google Sheet, have business rules applied, and feed a Data Studio dashboard. Report time fell from 4-5 hours to under 5 minutes, and reporting accuracy rose from about 75% to 99%.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Data Studio consultant cost?

I quote a fixed price after a free review, because the effort depends on your sources, data quality and the number of pages. A single-source GA4 report and a multi-account blended dashboard are very different jobs. The pricing guide on this site explains what drives cost and the rates freelancers and agencies typically publish.

Is a Data Studio expert the same as a Looker developer?

No. Data Studio is Google's self-service reporting tool, while Looker is a separate enterprise BI platform built around governed semantic models. I work in Data Studio and Data Studio Pro. If your company runs Looker itself, you need a developer who specializes in that platform.

Will my old reports still work after the rename to Data Studio?

Yes. Existing reports, data sources and users moved over automatically in April 2026, and the old address redirects to datastudio.google.com with deep links preserved. You do not need to rebuild or re-share anything because of the name change.

Can you take over a Data Studio report someone else built?

Yes, and it is a large share of my work. I start with an audit of data sources, credentials, blends and calculated fields, then fix what is broken and document what was never written down. If the structure is beyond repair, I tell you before quoting a rebuild.

Do I need Data Studio Pro?

Most small teams do not. Data Studio is free for creators and viewers. Pro costs $9 per user per project per month and adds team workspaces, organization-owned content, hourly scheduling, Slack and Google Chat delivery and Gemini, and viewers need no licence.

Do you work with clients outside India?

Yes. I work remotely with clients in the US, UK, Australia, Canada and Europe as well as India. Calls are scheduled to overlap with your working day, and most of the work happens asynchronously in a shared draft report.

Can you train my team to maintain the report?

Yes. Every build ends with a recorded handover, and I also run 1:1 and small-team training on your own reports. Sessions cover calculated fields, blends, connectors, sharing and data source credentials.
